AFYE focus equipping underserved youth and families with the necessary skills needed to prepare for successful outcomes centered around the program design elements of: 1) Education, 2) Health, 3) Economics and 4) Social. The Youth Leadership Development and Empowerment Program creates an environment that promotes success, empowerment, commitment dedication, hard work, excellence and achievement.

Below are key components of the program:

Education - program focus on increasing families learning opportunities and connecting them with educational resources thereby increasing employment opportunities.

Health - program promotes health awareness, living healthy lifestyles, assuming health responsibility and understanding of available services and resources.

Economic - program engages families in a series of financial literacy workshops to develop basic skills in money management such as budgeting, personal finance planning, credit, debt and investing.

Social - program focus on community building, participating in community activities and performing community service projects.
Program activities consist of the following:

Leadership Development: Designed to develop and build skills in leadership and personal growth and development.

Academic Success: Designed to focus on academic enabling skills such as study skills, homework completion, cooperative learning and organization skills. In addition, they learn about the college application process and opportunities.

Career Development: Designed to choose a suitable career path and provide workshops with focus on completing applications, interviewing skills and resume writing.

Building Resiliency Skills: Designed to develop resiliency skills through participation in workshops on gangs, bullying and youth violence prevention.

Etiquette Workshops: Designed to provide social graces, business etiquette and table dining and manners workshops.

Financial Literacy Workshops: Designed to provide training on the basics of financial literacy and personal finance.

Community Service: Designed to provide meaningful service project and volunteer opportunities that benefit the community.

Cultural Awareness: Designed to develop and expand participant knowledge, sensitivity, and respect for cultural diversity.

Annual Back-to-School Health Fair: Promotes healthy lifestyle for families and to increase awareness about health services and resources available to assist them. In addition, to provide students with free immunization shots, physical exams, health screenings and school supplies to prepare them for the first day of school.

Annual Memphis Christmas Parade: : Promotes building community unity and youth participation. This allows the schools, community and businesses to work together and to that end continue to build a stronger community.
